- Minx

Twelve months since winning EMI’s inaugural She Can DJ competition and inking a global record deal, Australia’s queen of clubs Minx is dealing out another ace from her deck, with a scorching new single ‘Night To Remember’.Hot on the heels of previous releases ‘Taking Chances’ and ‘You & I’ (co-produced with Nordean), her latest cut is a sexy, soaring, mainroom house anthem featuring Sydney siren Reigan Derry on vocals. And while the verses will lure you in the door, the epic, euphoric chorus throws you onto the dancefloor.“A mutual friend hooked me up with Reigan we and hit it off immediately,” recalls the DJ/producer known off-stage as Rachel Phillips. “I knew her amazing voice would give the song an international feel, having previously worked with the likes of superstars Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg & Ne-Yo.”Given Minx’s nocturnal pursuits, the track could well be her career’s theme song. It’s also the first taste of her forthcoming debut artist album, which she’s co-producing with Melbourne producer Yama Indra (aka Gloves).“It’s really different,” says Minx about the album, which will be released in 2013. “It’s influenced by what’s going on in house music and the deeper scene at the moment, so in parts I’ve gone on an old school house tip, which is a lot of fun. There are also big vocal tracks, instrumental bangers and on the other end of the spectrum, some big main room progressive sounds too.”When she’s not bunkered down in the studio or co- hosting Channel [V]’s club show The Weekend (Friday nights at 10pm), this top level spinner’s been running laps around the globe and supporting the likes of Madeon and Avicii. Earlier this year, in a life- changing trip she spun at the Grammy Awards after- party in Los Angeles and the Brit Awards after-party in London, playing tunes to the likes of Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Tinie Tempah. After her maiden voyage to Ibiza last year, she’s been back to the dance music mecca twice in 2012. In May, she played island institutions Blue Marlin, Cafe Mambo and the International Music Summit Dalt Vila event in Ibiza’s Old Town Castle alongside David Guetta, Paul Oakenfold and Diplo.“To play on top of Dalt Vila in the castle overlooking the island and getting to meet those guys was just insane,” she beams. “It was such a great trip!” She was invited back in September (via London and an appearance at France’s She Can DJ Finals in Paris) to play legendary club Pacha (twice), Erick Morillo’s Subliminal night and Cafe Mambo again, where she got to rub shoulders with Roger Sanchez, Carl Cox and her all-time idol, Eric Prydz. This is also where, in a b2b DJ session with Sarah Main (Pacha), the idea was born for a MAINroom & Tom Peppe remix of ‘Night To Remember’.“Honestly, it was the best day of my life,” she beams. “We got to hang out, chat music and head over to Amnesia as a crew after the Mambo Charity event for Red Cross. I was beside myself with excitement.” She’s already dreaming of her next summer there, but right now her album, an ever increasing list of DJ residencies and her Stereosonic Festival sets are sitting pretty on her radar. Life’s flying by at lightspeed, but Minx says she wouldn’t have it any otherway.
