The first single, 'Turn You Out', from Matt Tolfrey's 2012 LP gets a makeover this month with remixes from the legendary Kenny Dope and formidable Laura Jones & Gavin Herlihy. The 'Word of Mouth' LP won a broad range of fans from the likes of Damian Lazarus to Dj Sprinkles, and the initial 'Turn You Out' single turned a fair few heads with guest vocals from Technotronic member, Ya Kid K. Masters at Work's Kenny Dope is first up on the remix release and his version immediately hits home with some trademark, Hip Hop fuelled Dope beats. With the groove in place, Kenny shifts his focus to abrasive rave synths and complimentary bass licks before letting fly with Ya Kid K's rousing titular vocals. Jones and Herlihy, both Leftroom regulars, pair up a dub and vocal re-rubs that follow on from Kenny Dope's old school referencing version nicely. A slow-burning groove punctuated with tribal inflections forms the basis of both versions from the Leeds-based duo, who employ nifty filtering throughout to maximise each drop while playing with neat vocal edits and pin sharp effects. Both takes on Tolfrey's original are weighty, drummy affairs that evoke the best of NY house.
