In 25 years Nice & Nasty have been in contact with many prominent people in the world of dance music, electronic music and as a label and club promoter worked with the very best, worked with the pioneers and hung out with a few global superstars. Djs such as Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier and Richie Hawtin; underground heroes like Billy Nasty, Terrence Dixon, Dave Ingham and CJ Bolland ; plus artists such as Alan Oldham, Fabrice Lig, Jon Teknik and Arne Weinberg are a mere few of the international flavour that had either recorded for Nice & Nasty or played for them, some doing both, some becoming part f the family. In 25 years of running gigs in Belfast, Bangor and Dublin, playing occasional shows abroad and releasing music by local and international acts, Nice & Nasty has touched the lives of many on the way up and provided support for those that came down before going back up again as the label stayed trued to its DIY ethic and underground culture. Nice & Nasty has always represented the taste and vision of Desy Balmer but along the way it has nurtured and inspired many local artist and been privileged to be part of many Irish DJs and Producers own journey. Inspired by Robbie Nelson, Glen Molloy, Iain McReady and David Holmes, Desy's vision was always to put Irish clubs and music on the map and along the way the label is both proud and honoured to work with Steve Boyd, Chymera, Francois, Derek Carr, Marty C, Matador, Mark 'Jacko' Jackson, Diarmaid O'Meara, The Sequel, Jay Riordan, Thatboytim, Tr-One, Rob Glennon, Mick Chillage, Barry Wigham, Shane Kehoe, Gary Irwin and Mark O'Sullivan (to name a few) and hope to continue to work them them and future generations of techno and house music makers. Erell Ranson has been recording with Nice & Nasty since 2011 when he dropped a remix for Nachklangmusik. Desy had been a fan of Erell and his label MySelf recordings and was delighted when the Frenchman wanted to become part of the N&N family and after a couple of singles and remixes he released the album Nila to critical acclaim. It is fitting that Ranson is the first to offer 5 for 25 as Erell Ranson epitomises the ethos of Nice & Nasty. Erell has selected original works by Derek Carr, DJ Mourad and Mick Chillage and remixes of Marco Bernardi and Andrew Duke by Arne Weinberg and Claude Young, respectively. Two Irishmen fused with Swede, Scotch and Canadian with remix duty by a German and an American superbly epitomising the global, world wide nature of Nice & Nasty whilst illustrating the small world interconnected by music, melody and drum machines. In Ranson's own words these are what these tracks and N&N means to him: Derek Carr "Ariel" - I am a big fan of Derek's stuff but I was hooked by his album, Science & Soul and the first digital release of N&N. I continue to be a fan and Ariel is one of those moments that i'll listen to forever. Andrew Duke "Geisha (C.Young Remix). Andy's original was already good, but Claude made it even better. He delivered here a great remix. all I like DJ Mourad "Trouble Funk" - Mourad created the perfect vision of what the sound of Detroit must be - groovy and melancholic. Marco Bernardi "EFNG (A.Weinberg Rmx)" Another remix, but this one from the German master Arne Weinberg. He remixed it with his own unique touch. Marco is a class act but you can't be wrong with Arne Weinberg. Mick Chillage "Pure Blue" Pure Blue is the perfect track for a Sunday morning for chilling after dancing all night long. We hope you enjoy the music, play it loud and often as we celebrate turning a ripe old 25.
