Ryan Chadwick, the 24-year old aerospace engineer-turned-producer behind OTR, had a late-start in his passion for music. It started in 2012 when he decided he was going to learn how to play instruments using a dusty, run-down piano in his college dorm lobby to teach himself chord progressions. The ease of learning piano led him to spend time with a guitar, and shortly thereafter he found himself experimenting with Logic on his Macbook Pro.
In 2014, Ryan spent eight months at an internship in Kurashiki, Japan. Living by himself and battling the challenges of moving to a foreign city, he purchased a keyboard and a train pass, spending his free-time traveling the country and working on his music. It was those eight months that changed his hobby into a passion. He became influenced and inspired by modern producers like Odesza, Petit Biscuit, and Porter Robinson and the Indie-sounds of artists like Daughter and Bon Iver.
Upon returning to the states, Ryan moved into a neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Cincinnati known as Over-the-Rhine. Once the most dangerous area of the city, OTR is now the up-and-coming food and arts scene. With his newly harnessed talent in producing and eclectic new surroundings, he created his own OTR.
Ryan has hopes to turn his hobby into a career, starting with an EP release for OTR. He wants to eventually become a producer for todays top artists and continue to release projects that will help inspire beginners to pursue their passion.
